March 2008 One Hundred Seventy-Ninth Edition
arch is our most active training month for our instructors. I am very proud of our staff. I know of no one that has the talent and professionalism we enjoy at PakÕs of Mandarin. This is not an accident. We decided to make a major commitment to instructor training years ago. What you see today are the fruits of that labor. To become an instructor at Mandarin you must: á Be a 1st Dan or higher. á Attend monthly training sessions. á Attend weekly instructor planning sessions. á Attend at least 2 SWAT am seminars. á Complete at least 1 instructor candidate course. This will take a dedicated student at least three years of training and mentoring before they receive a Black top and the rank of Assistant Instructor. This rank Maragaret LaSenna-Editor www.pakskarate.com/mandarin
allows them to teach classes under supervision of a promoted instructor. A year of this on the job training will usually result in their promotion to the rank of Martial Arts Instructor. All of our staff members continue to participate in the yearly ICC seminars which feature different skills each session. Our staff has received training by professionals in subjects such as marketing, personal finance, student development, customer service, team building, leadership skills, hygiene and nutrition, public speaking, CPR and first aid, professional responsibilities and accountability as well as Korean Martial Arts culture, history and traditions. This yearÕs course will be conducted by Master Craig Peeples, Master Bryan Peeples, Master Seldon and the staff of the Kingsland and Fernandina schools. These are some of the most knowledgeable and talented Martial artists in America today and we are pleased to be participating in this yearÕs seminar. Again, this year, it breaks my heart to face the insanity that has gripped this country. With the exception of Arizona, America will descend into the darkness and evil of DST.

Have you considered having your birthday party with a karate theme? Let us review our birthday party plan with you.
Your do bok (uniform) should be kept clean and you should be neatly dressed. When your do bok becomes disheveled during class you should fix it, only after stopping what you are doing and turning away from others while you straighten it. Your dee (belt) should be kept tied properly. The rules for your do bok apply here as well. In addition, you should not wear your dee outside or while eating or drinking. During these activities, the dee should be taken off and placed around the back of your neck. Next Test is May 3, 2008 hosted by PakÕs of MandarinIMPORTANT ITC INFORMATION
---future black belts---See you Saturday March 8. 2008 @ 8 am
Friendship Week
Our program operates on reputation, professionalism and referrals. People in this community know us. We have been The Martial Arts program in Mandarin for 25 years. The list of schools that have closed around us is testament to that. Your appreciation of what we do and how we operate was reflected this week by your invitation to family and friends to join you in class. We thank you!
The Party We knew on Monday that we were going to be in for a busy and fun week. When you have a class with one friend and guest, it can be challenging to teach that class. However, when most of the class is made up of friends and their guests, you can really have a good time and we did. Not just one class, but each class, all week, so we thought the Friendship party on Friday would be special. A traffic jam that trapped three of our instructors made the first 20 minutes of the party not only exciting, but a challenge. From all accounts, it went well. There were no 911 calls and everyone seemed to be smiling as they left. As the last student left, one mom, whose name I wonÕt mention, (Mrs. Hoffmann) said, ÒSure is quiet now. The only thing louder than that class was the lobby.Ó I am sure we exceeded any class participation since our Hurricane Party in Õ05. But thatÕs another story.
One more word on this yearÕs ExtravaganzaÉ Written by Kim Hoy
The Pak's Karate of Mandarin annual Extravaganza was on January 5, 2008. If you attended this wonderful event, it needs no introduction. But if you didn't, it was an event worth seeing. The karate demonstration, the awards, the musical performances; every moment of the Extravaganza was action-packed and well-performed. The Extravaganza used to be held at the First Baptist Church of Mandarin, then it moved to the Mandarin Middle School auditorium, and it looks as if it's new home will be the Florida Theater, which has been home to some of the biggest stars. The night began with a breathtaking performance by Team Element. The members of this amazing team are flawless at flips, tricks, and comedy. The next demonstration was the Open Children's Demo Team. In only a few practices, Mr. Brown put together a fantastic demonstration with children who, for the most part, have never been on a demonstration team before. After this, the Ninja's, who gave a spectacular performance with choreography, forms, tricks, and weapons. After the student of the month certificates came the Open Black Belt Team, who put together an amazingly organized demo with the higher belts of the karate school. It was very, very excellent. Following that was a musical performance by Ben and Brian Goldsberry, and a saxophone duet by Robbie Stern and Michael Ha. Both were very well composed, practiced, and performed exquisitely. After that was a demonstration from our Pak's Families. Miss Jenna Ortiz won our Kim Power Spirit Award. Next came Team Hydra, a very well performed and choreographed demonstration team, and then a fantastic song, sung by Rebekah Dulke. Then came the hilariously well performed adult demo teams. Then came the instructor demo team, a graceful and strong performance of our school's finest teachers. Then came Team Extreme, the 2007 UTF Demonstration competition world champions, and what a show they put on: Hilarious, surprising, and excellent upon every turn. All this was announced by our Master of Ceremonies, Rekebah Dulke. If you missed the show, it's running all day long on the computer in the lobby, come inside and take a look. Also, copies of the show on DVD are selling for $12. Come to next year's extravaganza, and I promise you, you'll have an amazing evening.

SATURDAY BOOTCAMP CLASSES
318-2986 March CardioTime to get moving, but you just arenÕt motivated you hate the treadmill, you despise running, you are not a gym rat, etcÉ I could go on for days. The simple fact is we all need to be moving we all need cardio fitness. Our HEART is our lifeline and it is in fact a muscle that needs to be exercised. So many people donÕt even think of the heart when they think of body/muscle building- they only look at the outside appearance of ÒmusclesÓ. I hear so many people say they donÕt want to be body builders or look that way & they donÕt understand the hard work and hours it took to ÒbuildÓ that, but also to the other extreme someone with great ÒcardiovascularÓ fitness may go unnoticedÉÉ. They arenÕt the body builders of tomorrow. But, I want to help anyone ready to get a move on in the right direction of their health. Doing something is better than nothing. Whatever your goal- LetÕs get it started in March! This monthÕs Cardio workout can be modified for anyone at any level! This can be done on a track/road, treadmill, step mill, bike, etc. You can make it work. Variety helps pass the time. Try this 3-5 x per week for the month of March.
